The Fellowship is pleased to present a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Batman story arc entitled A Death in the Family. It was a controversial one, with a new concept in reader participation and a slightly darker take on the Joker. There's a lot to cover on this one, and we add our usual flair, as well as our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Catching up on Detective, Strangers in Paradise XXV, Dungeons & Dragons Evil at Baldur's Gate - all fun series

Not reading, but catching up on TV - The Flash & Orange is the New Black, with Gotham in the on-deck circle

Where We Live (the fundraiser comic for the Las Vegas Shooting victims), Fairest (the Fables spinoff)

Comic Book Implosion (a book about DC's "Implosion" which we talked about back in episode 115)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

30 years since Batman: A Death in the Family - a reader poll to decide the fate of a character people weren't thrilled about to start with, but the story was a good one and it still holds up well today

Plus some tangents on death in comics and various other stuff

Picks for the week of 8/29:

Dungeons & Dragons: Evil at Baldur's Gate #5 (IDW)

Blood Realm #1 (Alterna)

Scarlet #1 (DC/Vertigo)

Beyonders #1 (Aftershock)

Joker Daffy Duck Special (DC)

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Venom (Marvel)

House Amok #1 (IDW/Black Crown)

Harley Quinn Gossamer Special (DC)

Honorable Mention: I Hate Fairyland volume 4 trade (Image)

Shoutouts:

Condolences to the families and friends of Aretha Franklin and Barbara Harris

Manny the Martyr - thanks for letting us use your music; check them out by clicking the link

#PodernFamily - an awesome group of indie podcasters supporting each other; find a podcast on literally anything by searching the hashtag

The Fellowship is pleased to present a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original Battlestar Galactica TV series. It didn't last long, and the sequels were never quite as solid, but it still broke some ground in sci-fi television. Lots of reminiscing and our usual odd behavior, as well as our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

[Apologies for the Skype twitching at the beginning. It goes away pretty quick, I promise :-) -m]

Mikey's Big Bag 'o Nothing® - super busy this weekend, big pile of comics to wade through soon

New Chaykin book Hey Kids! Comics! - interesting reading

8/14 is the anniversary of the release of Rocky Horror Picture Show (and a little Heavy Metal film tangent too)

Murder on the Orient Express (2017) - pretty good remake, great cast, maybe a "sequel" on the way?

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

40 years of Battlestar Galactica - it may not have been on the air for long, but it had a lot of staying power otherwise

Also a bit of Glen A. Larson love - that guy created a ton of shows in the late '70s/early '80s

Picks for the week of 8/22:

Batman: Kings of Fear #1 (DC)

Twelve Devils Dancing #2 (Action Lab Danger Zone)

Punisher #1 (Marvel)

Death of Love trade (Image)

Dead Life #2 (Titan)

Bram Stoker's Dracula trade reprint HC (IDW) [Note: written by Roy Thomas :-) -m]

Fantastic Four World's Greatest Comics Magazine collection (Marvel)

Super Weird Heroes: Preposterous But True collection (IDW/Yoe Books)

Honorable Mention: Rick and Morty vs Dungeons & Dragons #1 (IDW)

The Fellowship is pleased to present a pair of graphic novel reviews. This week we read two graphic novels so that we could review and discuss them for your entertainment. The books are very different, and the discussion was interesting and fun. But hey, it's us, so we have our normal silly moments, as well as our usual picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

The Rock Show with Gully and Joe - metal podcast that went away for a while, but now they're back! Go check them out

Les' Big Bag o' Nothing® - hung out at the LCS, didn't get much done

Silver Age Doom Patrol and Fantastic Four Epic Collection - awesome stuff, but a bit of culture shock (tangent on Sue Storm)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

The books we reviewed in this show were:

The Joe Shuster Story: The Artist Behind Superman

Picks for the week of 8/15:

The New Defenders Epic Collection (Marvel)

The Vigilant treasury (2000AD)

The Fellowship is pleased to present another Casting Call episode. This time we're looking into the 1977 Spider-man live-action TV series, which lasted parts of two seasons. We've got some Spidey characters picked out, and we're choosing who we think should play those roles (as much from the time period as possible). Much fun was had by all, with a big dose of our normal weirdness, as well as our usual picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Missouri Swagger - video podcast on YouTube starring Cullen Bunn & Dennis Hopeless (spinoff of our show? You decide…)

Read a bunch of comics, but not willing to report (didn't like them) - shoot Liz some Marvel recommendations on Twitter @neumann_l  :-)

Les checked out the recent Sitcomics books - impressed with the quality

Busy working on background stuff for the podcast, so no comics this week (other than bagging & boarding)

Casting Call for the 1977 Spider-man live-action series

We sure do have a blast with these, and we hope you do too (even if we get pretty danged obscure with some of the names *cough* Robert Walden *cough* Richard Lynch *cough*)

Note: the D'Onofrio movie Les refers to is The Whole Wide World (1996)

Another Note: Fred Grandy served in the House from 1987-1995.

Picks for the week of 8/8:

Fantastic Four #1 (Marvel)

Windhaven GN (Bantam)

Black Badge #1 (BOOM! Studios)
