The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. After doing some of the darker Carpenter movies in October, we wanted to cover some lighter fare (that and movie discussions are, let's face it, fun). Our usual hijinks ensue, of course. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Murder Dice - a D&D actual play podcast that you should all check out

A Very Bad Guild - webseries centered (loosely) on DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online) hosted by Dirty William that you should also check out

Holiday shopping, family visiting for the holiday (and a tangent)

Showcase Presents: Super Friends - interesting read, especially when it poked fun at Marvel

The Heretic - a cool crime story from a few years back

Movie time - Murder on the Orient Express, Justice League, AGFA at the Alamo (The Kentucky Fried Movie)

Marvel's Epic Collections - Iron Man: The Enemy Within

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

[Note: I'm listening to this while editing and I still don't know how we got off on the Lancelot Link thing. If you're listening and can figure it out, please let us know on social media ;-)  -m]

And as always, our picks of the week.

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion/celebration of Star Trek: The Next Generation, in its 30th anniversary year. In its own way, it was a Star Trek reboot before that was cool, and its history is just as fascinating as the show itself. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Mikey's Movie Chair - The Chair, the film based on the Alterna Comics graphic novel; very dark and brutal, but also very good

Les' Movie Chair - went to a 10-hour horror sequel movie event; 5 movies including Psycho 2 and House 2, fun to watch them, even if they were not cinema gold [tangent: the documentary about the shower scene is called 78/52. -m]

Thomas' Civic Duty - not so much fun this week, partly due to jury duty [there's a tangent I never thought we'd ever have on this show ;-) -m]

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

If you're into the background stuff, check out The Captains and Chaos On The Bridge, two great documentaries about the Star Trek experience.

The Fellowship is pleased to present the fifth and final week of our Carpenter Month, with Ghosts of Mars (2001). We colonize Mars, and Mars isn't all that thrilled about it. This is the film that made him retire from directing. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

The Tick (Amazon Prime series) - definite thumbs up, not exactly what we're used to in a Tick series but in a totally good way

Les' Trade Pile - Superman's Reign vol 2; good stuff, with some dimensional crossover going on

Thomas' Trade Pile - Tales of the Batman (Len Wein collection), specifically Untold Legends of Batman; good read with some nostalgia mixed in

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

[Note: I find it interesting how when we get hold of a bad movie, we start bringing up other, better movies. It's as if we're desperate to find something better to talk about. This note is apropos of nothing, of course; I just think it's funny in its own way. -m]

Picks for the week of 11/1:

Batman White Knight #2 (DC)

Power Pack #63 (Marvel)

Atomic Robo and the Spectre of Tomorrow #1 (IDW)

The Jetsons #1 (DC)

Lazarus X+66 #4 (Image)

Honorable Mention: Absolute Justice League Worlds: Greatest Superheroes hardcover (DC)

Honorable Mention: A Very DC Rebirth Holiday collection (DC)

Honorable Mention: Bettie Page #4 (Dynamite)

Shoutouts:

Halloween is coming, and here's an idea to consider - your local comic shop (most likely) has conveniently bundled (and priced) packs of comics that you can hand out to trick-or-treaters this year

Fellowship announcement - we're excited to welcome a new geek to the fold; Liz will be starting to add reviews to the website this week, and she'll be joining us on the podcast in the near future

The Fellowship is pleased to present week 4 of Carpenter Month, featuring In the Mouth of Madness (1995). An investigator is asked to find a book and its author, and gets way more than he expected. No happy ending here, despite all the laughter. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Mikey's Big Bag o' Nothing® - busy week, not much comics happening

Les' Movie Chair - Comic Book: The Movie, Demon with the Atomic Brain (new Christopher Mihm movie), Phantom of the Paradise

New project in the works for the Fellowship (stay tuned)

The Fellowship is pleased to present week 3 of Carpenter Month, featuring Prince of Darkness (1987). A priest calls in a group of scientists to study a secret artifact which awakens and begins the apocalypse. Not one of his most celebrated works, to put it mildly. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Trade pile - Elric volume 1; cool and psychedelic

More trade pile - Shadow Year One (Dynamite), fun backstory; DK3 The Master Race, a really good story

Twitch watch - Cuphead, cool new game that's visually striking

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

[Note: We realized during the break that we forgot to do ratings for this movie, but we decided that how we felt about it was already pretty clear :-) -m]

Picks for the week of 10/18:

Sherlock Frankenstein and the Legion of Evil #1 (Dark Horse)

Maestros #1 (Image)

Wrapped Up #1 (Lion Forge)

Kill the Minotaur #5 (Image)

John Wick #1 (Dynamite)

Archie: A Celebration of America's Favorite Teenagers (IDW)

Honorable Mention: Curse Words #9 (Image)

Honorable Mention: JLA: The Nail/Another Nail Deluxe Edition (DC)

Honorable Mention: EC Archives: Aces High collection (Dark Horse)

Special Mention: We've been doing stuff like this for 7 years now - the Fellowship's first webcast was October 19, 2010. This was back when Ustream was a new concept, and Twitch didn't exist yet. [I think Tom is trying to say we're old, in his own subtle way, as if we need reminding ;-) -m] And a lot of those old live shows are on our YouTube channel for your enjoyment. You know, in case you wanted to know what we looked like five years ago or whatever.

The Fellowship is pleased to present week 2 of Carpenter Month, featuring The Thing (1982). Antarctic researchers have to save the world from an alien doppleganger, and hijinks ensue. A box office bomb now considered one of the best horror films of all time. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Started watching Amazon's The Tick - so far so good

[Skype kind of squicked out on Les here. But it got better after this segment, I promise :-) -m]

Tangent: Superman's Reign - DC's "alternate world" run back in the 90s

Showcase Presents: The Atom - nice little origin collection

TCM [I think] showing 3 Dracula flicks consecutively - it's October, obviously :-) (also it's tangent time)

Facebook games - not so much the "cooperative" ones; Star Trek Timelines in particular; slightly addictive

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

[Also, somewhere early in the discussion Thomas' microphone picked up a weird hum. Not a major deal, but an interesting sound effect had it been intentional :-) -m]

We didn't actually name the actor in the creature suit in the 1951 movie - it was James Arness (Marshal Dillon from Gunsmoke)

Picks for the week of 10/11:

Gotham City Garage #1 (DC)

Archie Halloween Spectacular (Archie)

KISS Vampirella #5 (Dynamite)

Dan Dare #1 (Titan)

The Fellowship is pleased to present the kickoff of our "secret project," which is that we're talking about John Carpenter movies for the month of October. The first installment is The Fog (1980), in which a group of murdered lepers seek revenge. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Mikey's Big Bag 'o Nothing® - family obligations, not much geek stuff

Thomas' Big Bag 'o Nothing® - working is the most fun he had this week

Hercules (1983) - Lou Ferrigno in the titular role; a bad movie's bad movie [Note: Rifftrax has not done this movie, but it's popular on their suggestions page. -m] And then tangent time :-)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Also, the Make Mine Indie catalog is on hiatus for the near future. We'll be sure to let you know when it comes back, and we want to thank Peter Simeti for his hard work on the project (and his sponsorship of the Fellowship, of course).

[Note: Lethal Weapon came out in 1987. -m]
