The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of Zorro on the 100th anniversary of his debut. He's kind of a quintessential hero, fighting for the people simply because he can. And though he's been active for most of the century, we wonder if maybe he doesn't get the love he deserves. We get into his creator, his movies and TV shows, his modus operandi, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual weird behavior and our picks of the week.

The Fellowship is pleased to present a Q&A episode. We got some great questions from listeners (and fellow podcasters) and we're answering a couple of them in this episode. We get into how geeky we really are, fangirling, Dobby vs Gollum, a Stan Lee biopic, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual strange behavior and our picks of the week.

Sorry about losing Les partway through. We can't go a week without finding a new way to make this difficult, can we? 😉
Also, we seem to have gotten some overzealous microphone stuff going on in here, too. Apologies for the questionable sound quality (it's beyond my meager sound editing skills to clean that up).

The Fellowship regrets to announce that we do not have a new episode for you this week. This one was planned, fortunately, so it's more about vacation than failure to perform 🙂. We did get together our picks of the week for you (see below). And we'll be back next week with more of our usual fun (and something we've been threatening for a while now?...). And if we don't say it enough, thank you for listening and hanging out with us 🙂

The Fellowship is pleased to present another Casting Call episode. This time we're doing it a little differently - we're casting a new movie for Action Lab's Spencer & Locke comic series. It's a book that has been optioned for film, and it's got a deliciously dark storyline. We get into CGI, casting kids, movies vs streaming TV, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual odd behavior and our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website
And we will not have a new episode next week

What we're up to this week:
Music documentary - Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark; very good doc, lots of family interviews, very sad ending
Dealing with sick kids all week, also homework for this week's topic
Homework, and Dateline reruns (tangent on true crime podcasts)
Meet & Gab was good, SDCC news, Fluxx has come to smartphones

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

And if this is your first Casting Call with our show, you'll want to keep Google handy. We can get a bit obscure with the names when we do this. This one shouldn't be quite as bad as when we deep-dive into decades long past, but still...

And I referred to our last chat with Madeleine Holly-Rosing, which was episode 146. Check it out and go buy her book!

Picks for the week of 7/31:
Sham #3 (Source Point)
Dear Justice League collection (DC)
Manor Black #1 (Dark Horse)
Knights Temporal #1 (Aftershock)
Bone: The Complete Cartoon Epic in One Volume (Cartoon Books)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our conversation with Darin Henry, writer and publisher of Sitcomics. Sitcomics is one of the fresh new faces in the comics industry, and you're definitely going to want to check them out at Sitcomics.net (or talk to your local shop about contacting them to get their books). We talk about the Sitcomics cast of characters, working with amazing creators, rating systems, the formatting of comics, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual silliness and our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website

What we're up to this week:
Music documentary - Death By Metal (2016) about Chuck from Death (the death metal band); good doc, hard to watch at times for reasons, but go watch it
Addicted to an online game called Wordscapes
Also playing an online game; this one is Star Trek Timelines, and it's pretty fun
And another successful Meet & Gab 🙂
No Liz this week, unfortunately

The downside to recording on Skype is that sometimes you get dropouts and hinky sound events. I don't think it interfered with the conversation too much, though.
Darin has some really interesting (and hilarious) stuff going on, with supers and horror with a comedy twist. Very cool stuff!

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of the Apollo 11 moon landing on or near the 50th anniversary of the event. This was a huge event not only from a scientific perspective, but also for nationalism during the Cold War and for popular culture (for the TV coverage alone). We talk about NASA, the government, conspiracy theories, space shuttle accidents, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual weirdness and our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website

What we're up to this week:
More music documentaries - this week it was Rainbow and Iron Maiden; I learned a lot about both (which is good, I think)
More online comics - found some older Danger Girl books (good stuff); tangent about the July 4th holiday [sitting at Lew for a week - the county jail is named the Lew Sterrett Detention Center. And now you know 🙂 ]
Reading some DC collections - Invasion, Planetary/Justice League, Catwoman 75 Years
New addition - Batman: The Sunday Classics 1943-1946

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

The moon landing was a huge step for humanity, one I hope we can find a way to make useful sometime soon. We've certainly found plenty of ways to corrupt it, make fun of it, and blindly refuse to believe it.
And I was close, sort of - it was A Trip To The Moon (1902), not The First Men In The Moon (the HG Wells story published in 1901, first made into a movie in 1919). Thomas named it correctly early on 🙂
And while we're at it, I found this great YouTube video about the moon landing hoax thing

Picks for the week of 7/17:
Vampirella #1 (Dynamite)

Before Houdini volume 2 (Insight Comics)

X-Liefelds #1 (Keenspot)
Collapser #1 (DC/Young Animal)
Honorable Mention: They Called Us Enemy GN (IDW) [Allegiance was the name of the musical that I was forgetting here]

Shoutouts:
Condolences to the family, friends and fans of Cameron Boyce, who died this week way too young
And MAD Magazine will cease publication later this year - the end of an era

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of Vampirella on or near the 50th anniversary of her debut. This is a comics character with an interestingly diverse background and history, and a (mostly) consistent publication run. We talk about her ownership issues, changes in backstory, and crossovers galore, along with a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual crazy talk and our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website

What we're up to this week:
Music documentary - Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown (good doc about a hard subject)
Homework for the show, with the help of Readcomiconline.to; saw Toy Story 4; plus a little trailer talk
Saw Yesterday, liked it; also went to a local screening of Christopher Mihm's Friday Night Double Feature
Thomas' first comic convention in five years (due to working retail) - had a blast

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Vampirella is a very interesting character if for no other reason than she's been presented in such a wide variety of ways and stories. She's gone from horror hostess to alien to biblical myth to antihero to hero to futuristic hellscape dweller. Not necessarily in that order, either 😉
And apologies if the flow seems weird - we had a few odd interruptions which made editing a bit of a challenge.

Picks for the week of 7/10:
Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus #1 (Marvel)
H. P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness volume 1 (Dark Horse)
Unearth #1 (Image)
The DC Poster Portfolio of Frank Cho (DC)

Second Coming #1 (Ahoy Comics)
Lucky Man: The Bracelet Chronicles #4 (T Pub)
Honorable Mention: Black Hammer Justice League: Hammer of Justice #1 (Dark Horse/DC)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of Tim Burton's Batman on or near the 30th anniversary of its release. This is one we all remember, including all of the merch, all of the cultural impact, and all of the controversy. There's clearly no such thing as an easy Batman, but we pull out some opinions on this one, along with a whole lot of other stuff. Plus our usual goofy behavior and our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website

What we're up to this week:
Music documentaries - one on the Beatles (not so good) and one on Black Sabbath (better but kind of weirdly dated)
Not much this week - deferring to Les for his report (we were giving him a hard time pre-show)
Traveled to San Antonio last week for a big "celebrity" con - lots of fun, long hours, and rubbing of celebrity elbows 🙂
Discovered Pluto TV this week - latched onto the Classic Doctor Who channel

Sorry about the sound quality - I cut as much of the storm noise out as I could, but the way we record makes it tough. Also, I can't believe we're still having spring storms this late in June here, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Bettie Page: Unbound #2 (Dynamite)
Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds #1 (DC/Young Animal)
Analog #6 (Image)
Ignited #2 (Humanoids)

Star Wars: Target Vader #1 (Marvel)
Honorable Mention: Cons de Fee: The Erotic Art of Wallace Wood (Fantagraphics)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of movies from the summer of 1984. It's one of those rare years that have so much going on that we couldn't (or didn't want to ) narrow it down. There are a ton of good movies that came out that year, including a few that we might come back to later, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus getting back to our silly ways, as well as our picks of the week.

Announcements:
Come hang out with us! We have monthly meetups on 2nd Saturdays in Garland, TX; details on Facebook & Twitter & the Events tab on our website

What we're up to this week:
Big Bag o' Nothing - I hate home ownership (and a rant about citizenship)
Dead Like Me on Hulu - pretty good, watched it on Hulu's recommendation; also some slightly awkward love for Jackyl and a rehash of the old Joker rant (sorry)
Comics (shocking, right?) - Star Trek: The Key Collection vol 5; Batman: The War Years
(and we're down one this week - Les will be back next week 🙂 )

The Fellowship is pleased to present our conversation with writer Jason Inman. We had a nice discussion with him about his new book Super Soldiers: A Salute to the Comic Book Heroes and Villains Who Fought For Their Country, and we also talked about his podcast Geek History Lesson. There are a ton of interesting characters and stories in the book, and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus us behaving ourselves for the interview, as well as our picks of the week.
