The new Halloween film - two thumbs up

The Fellowship is pleased to present the final movie on our funny horror movie list, The Cabin In The Woods (2012). This one provided some interesting discussion since we have some differing ideas about it. We all have opinions and trivia, and we add our usual insane babbling, as well as our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:
Watching the topic movie, continuing the book I'm reading, and kind of a short week (we recorded late last week)
Halloween horror movie every day, Van Helsing vs Robyn Hood
Big Bag o' Nothing - except for The Wild World of Batwoman (even Les had never seen this monstrosity) and a tangent (kind of a Joker rant, tbh)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Horror Movie Month! - this week we're (mostly) loving The Cabin In The Woods, though we sort of agree that it's not really a comedy (despite being labeled that way by a lot of people)

Picks for the week of 10/24:
The Whispering Dark #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinity Wars: Arachknight #1 (Marvel)
Spook House 2 #4 (Albatross)
The Books of Magic #1 (Vertigo)
Abbott vol 1 trade (BOOM! Studios)
Die Kitty Die!: Cathouse of Horror special (Chapterhouse)
Comics Comics Quarterly #1 (SBI Press)
Marvel Super Heroes Captain Marvel Halloween Spooktacular special (Marvel)
Honorable Mention: Five Halloween specials from Dynamite - all of them look awesome

Shoutouts:
Thanks to Phil for his background contributions to the show (and apologies to you, because I can't cut all of that out) ;-)
Manny the Martyr - thanks for letting us use your music; check them out by clicking the link

The Fellowship is pleased to present the next movie on our funny horror movie list, Young Frankenstein (1974). Even Mel Brooks thinks this is the greatest Mel Brooks film (or so we’ve heard), and Gene Wilder wrote one hell of a script. We all have opinions and trivia, and we add our usual flair, as well as our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Still catching up on comics - Brothers Dracul, Real Science Adventures, Comic Book Implosion

A horror movie a day; Batman Damned (tangent of sorts on the “Bat-Wang” controversy); Bully Wars; Nightmare Before Christmas manga

Annual reread of Something Wicked This Way Comes; Scared Silly DVD collection (13 old comedy-horror movies, including Little Shop of Horrors, which sparks a brief tangent)

The new Doctor Who debuted; catching up on reading

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Horror Movie Month! - this week we're loving Young Frankenstein, such a well written and well played movie with a clear reverence for the source material

[Note: Mel Brooks: Make a Noise (2013) was the documentary I was talking about. -m]

Picks for the week of 10/17:

Lucifer #1 (DC/Vertigo)

Gideon Falls #7 (Image) - also the first trade is out this week, and congrats to them on the TV deal

The Three Stooges: Monsters & Mayhem special (American Mythology)

Exorsisters #1 (Image)

Umbrella Academy collection (Dark Horse) - also a TV deal, and also check out the new series Hotel Oblivion

Real Science Adventures: The Nicodemus Job #4 (IDW)

Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Master of the Mystic Arts (Marvel)

Spook House 2 #3 (Albatross)

Honorable Mention: Strangers in Paradise XXV #7 (Abstract Studios)

The Fellowship is pleased to present the next movie on our funny horror movie list, Student Bodies (1981). This is a movie with strong Texas roots, and though it didn’t do a ton of box office, it still has a pretty good lock on spoofing the slasher flick. We all have opinions and trivia, and we add our usual weirdness, as well as our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Finally finished Secret Wars and can move on to other comics

31 Days of October - watching something Halloween related every day

A1: The World’s Greatest Comics - collection of British comics; also Q: The Winged Serpent - a movie that maybe isn’t as good as the A1 collection ;-)

(a bit of a tangent here about… well, you’ll see)

Batman: The Brave and The Bold Bronze Age collection - an interesting read; also ASMR on Twitch - helpful for trying to wind down (some of us need that, y’know?)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Horror Movie Month! - this week we’re talking Student Bodies, possibly the first horror spoof

Also some interesting details along the way (but maybe I’m weird that way)

Picks for the week of 10/10:

Albert Einstein: Time Mason #1 (Action Lab)

reMIND #1 (Titan)

Devil Within #1 (Black Mask)

Last Space Race #1 (Aftershock)

Spook House #2 (Albatross)

Girl Power: Amanda Conner Gallery Edition (DC)

The Art of Troma (Dynamite)

The Terrifics volume 1 trade (DC)

Honorable Mention: King of the Comics: 100 Years of King Features (IDW)

Shoutouts:

Congrats to David from the Murder Dice podcast (@MurderDice on Twitter) - he’s gonna be a dad :-)

On a sadder note, farewell to Norm Breyfogle and Carlos Ezquerra, comics artists of great accomplishment who will be sorely missed

And Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is spotlighting a bunch of great scary movies in October, so go check some of them out :-)
