The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion about the news that came out of this year's San Diego Comic Con. It's the premier event of the year in the geek world, and this year was just as busy as ever, with comics, TV, movies and anything else you can think of. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Deadlands game - general consensus is that the setting is cool, but the system is excessively complicated (sorry, Deadlands creators)

Comic series One-Hit Wonder (Image) - cool crime comic from 2015

Also Marvelman Family's Finest (Marvel) - a different take on supers

Last Girl Standing (2015 movie) - good premise, weak execution, but overall pretty good little horror flick (sparking a small tangent)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World and Make Mine Indie! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. And check out tons of great indie comics in the MMIndie catalog. And thank you!)

Lots of news bites ripped from the headlines of San Diego Comic Con!

And our episode where Thomas chose Dr Doom as worthy of his own title was episode 15, if you'd like to check it out

Picks for the week of 8/2:

Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #2 (Dynamite)

Hadrian's Wall #8 (Image)

Ever After #12 (DC)

Batman #28 (DC)

Sheena #0 (Dynamite)

Elsewhere #1 (Image)

Honorable Mention: New Gods special (DC)

Honorable Mention: Star Trek: Waypoint #6 (IDW)

Honorable Mention: Cinegeek hardcover (IDW)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion about comic strips. We talk about several of our favorites from childhood, some of which are still around today (though not necessarily in a daily newspaper). And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Movie Sign with the Mads - a cool movie podcast starring Dr. Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) and TV's Frank (Frank Conniff) of MST3K fame

The Blair Witch (2016) - overall an okay movie, but nothing surprising (a little too close to the original)

And we tangent off into other horror movies (a bit)

[Les is out on vacation this week. -m]

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World and Make Mine Indie! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. And check out tons of great indie comics in the MMIndie catalog. And thank you!)

The strips we listed as our favorites:

Garfield

[Note: the kitten Garfield hated was Nermal, not Nergal. Nergal is the Mesopotamian god of death. An easy mistake ;-) -m]

Peanuts

Calvin & Hobbes

Bizarro

The Far Side

Family Circus

Foxtrot

Life in Hell

Pearls Before Swine

Dilbert

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion about the possibility and feasibility of a "shared universe" (a la Marvel's Cinematic Universe) for the James Bond 007 franchise. We speculate on how it might work, who could be involved, and where we could get characters to pull it off. And as always, our picks of the week.

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of patriotism in comics in this day and age. We ponder how patriotic American characters might be viewed internationally, and how nostalgia can affect the reading of comics (with some possibly strong opinions coming out). And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Monty Python Speaks - a serious (well, serious for them) "biography" of the Monty Python phenomenon, and a good, informative read [published in 1999]

Les' Big Bag o' NothingĀ® - which unfolds into an arena football league championship game that he "forgot" about :-)

Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes collection

Also MST3K streaming on Twitch (on the Shout Factory page) and on the new Comet network

And congrats to the Texas Revolution on their championship :-)

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World and Make Mine Indie! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. And check out tons of great indie comics in the MMIndie catalog. And thank you!)

Happy Independence Day for all of our listeners in the US :-)

[Note: we do use Captain America as our example a lot, so we should thank Marvel for giving us the prime example for this week's topic. It is not our intent to disparage them in any way; they just happen to provide us some great examples.]

Picks for the week of 7/5:
