The Fellowship is pleased to present our list of "amalgam" characters - that is, characters that are combinations of two (or more) existing comics characters, usually from different universes. We had some fun making up weird and wonderful new characters based loosely on some of our favorites, and we hope you will have fun too. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Two books last week that I missed - Frankenstein Alive! Alive! #4 (Bernie Wrightson's last work) and The October Faction: Supernatural Dreams #1

A new convert to the Kentucky Fried Movie, though maybe a bit awkwardly :-) and also Ice Cream Man (very creepy)

Thomas' Big Bag o' Nothing® [Note: the extra time he's talking about? We recorded on Thursday this week instead of our usual Tuesday. I don't recall mentioning that in the show. -m]

Reading one of the Quarry novels by Max Allan Collins - very entertaining

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

As promised, the link to our episode about Amalgam Comics for a little background on the project

[Note: there's a bit of a hum in the background off and on through the recording. Can't figure out a way to remove it - sorry about that. -m]

Picks for the week of 3/14:

Atlas & Axis #3 (Titan)

Infidel #1 (Image)

Cosmo #3 (Archie)

Vampironica #1 (Archie)

Subspecies #1 (Action Lab Danger Zone)

Justice League of America Bronze Age Omnibus Vol 2 (DC)

Quarry's War #4 (Titan)

Eternity Girl #1 (DC)

Honorable Mention: Nailbiter Hardcover Collection Vol 2 (Image)

Shoutouts:

March is MS Awareness Month - it's a degenerative disease that we don't know much about yet

Manny the Martyr - thanks for letting us use your music; check them out by clicking the link

#PodernFamily - an awesome group of indie podcasters supporting each other; find a podcast on literally anything by searching the hashtag

The Fellowship is pleased to present our list of movies or TV shows (mostly) that we think would translate well to the comics medium. Our choices range from obvious to obscure to downright goofy - you know, kind of like our collective taste in comics. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Do Not Adjust Your Set - one of the precursors of Monty Python's Flying Circus; I found 9 episodes on Amazon Prime (they also have a few eps of At Last The 1948 Show, the other precursor)

The Walking Dead is back, and Liz is less than happy (also a brief appearance by Phil, Liz's hubby - hi Phil!)

Les' Big Bag o' Nothing® - read a few books, nothing to write home about

Star Wars Rebels is ending soon - awesome show, going to miss it

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Movies/TV shows/other properties we think would make interesting comics:

Nah, you're going to have to listen to get the list. I'm not making it that easy on you ;-)

[Note: Les was partially right - there was the beginning of a comic based on the Illuminatus! Trilogy in the late '80s. It didn't last long. -m]

Picks for the week of 3/7:

Oblivion Song #1 (Image)

Actionverse featuring Stray #6 (Action Lab)

Ballad of Sang #1 (Oni Press)

Spider King #1 (IDW)

Highest House #1 (IDW)

Unholy Grail trade (Aftershock)

Green Hornet #1 (Dynamite)

Swords of the Swashbucklers trade (Dynamite)

Honorable Mention: Kamandi by Jack Kirby Omnibus (DC)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Planet of the Apes movie franchise. It's been a successful series of movies more than once, and also twice made into TV shows (animated and live action). And it's loaded with themes that are as relevant today as they were 50 years ago. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

The Jetsons - very dramatic and well written; Strangers in Paradise - an intriguing start, to say the least

Ready for the return of The Walking Dead; also quitting smoking (yay Liz!) [Note: we get a bit personal here in support of Liz. Quitting smoking is hard, and we want her to succeed. -m]

Milk Wars (1-3) - bizarre but fun

Moon Knight Epic Collection - there's an awesome movie or Netflix series in there

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Congrats to all involved in making a sci-fi story work for 50 years. It's quite an accomplishment.

The Fellowship is pleased to present our conversation with Madeleine Holly-Rosing, creator of the Boston Metaphysical Society comic series. The latest chapter of the story, The Scourge of the Mechanical Men, is available now on Kickstarter. We chat with her about that book, about the Society in general, and about some of her other projects. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

The Winter Olympics - it's fun watching kids get into it for the first time

Dallas Comic Show last weekend - a bit of (awesome) name-dropping

Liz is turning young minds to the ways of comics one at a time ;-)

Still trying to dig out old RPG stuff, and stumbled across old notes from the webcast (shows we did years ago, and a list of old show topics)

*I have no idea if that's a real word or not. But it seems to fit.

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of some of our favorite board games. We've got some old games, some new games, and some not-particularly-board games that we've enjoyed past and present. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

100 Years of Horror series - almost done; Monsters From The Vault - a book along the same vein, very interesting reviews of old horror flicks

Nemo: The Roses of Berlin, Codename: Knockout, The Adventures of Apocalypse Al, Thor: Ragnarok prelude - good stuff (though the Thor was a little disappointing)

X-Men: Children of the Atom Epic Collection - including a notable editing slip, probably from the original run

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

Big thanks to Danny for the topic suggestion :-)

The Fellowship is pleased to present our discussion of DC's Doomsday Clock series - not so much the story, though, as the "politics" of the title. We talk about the history of Watchmen and the clashes between DC and Alan Moore, and whether or not this new series should have been made. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Police Squad on DVD - freaking genius; also Allegiance by Timothy Zahn

The Fellowship is pleased to present our celebration of the career of cartoonist Sergio Aragones, whose work was first published in MAD Magazine 55 years ago this month. He's a prolific artist with a glorious sense of humor, and we're big fans of his. And as always, our picks of the week.

What we're up to this week:

Liz is cold - our cold snaps do not compare to the areas having real problems, but we're not used to it

Dejah Thoris #0, Monstro Mechanica #2, Mighty Crusaders, Codename Knockout

The Fellowship is pleased to present our latest Casting Call episode. This time we're adding some casting to the 1978 Superman film series (you know, Christopher Reeve and company). We have a list of characters and we've come up with casting ideas for them. And as always, our picks of the week.

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)

We mention near the end that you may want to have Google or Wikipedia handy while listening; sometimes we get a little obscure since we're talking about actors from the past. (Not if you're driving, though.)

Also, if you have any ideas for casting these characters, please share them with us on social media. We'd love to hear from you and discuss them :-)

[Note: Aliens was 1986. I can't believe I blanked on that… And I was way off on A Clockwork Orange (1971). -m]

As mentioned, not linking every name we talked about. But Les mentioned this list of Superman villains you can check out.

The Fellowship is pleased to present our celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. We talk about the story, variations on the story, sci-fi implications, film adaptations and our usual silliness. And as always, our picks of the week.

Vacation in central Texas, reading comics in the car - Wonder Woman The True Amazon, very impressive

No major happenings from NYE - just a bit of a tangent on the really cold weather we had

And the Thin Man marathon on TCM

[Note: The Chris Meloni movie Les describes is National Lampoon's Dirty Movie (2011). -m]

Check out our sponsor page! Head to the website and click on the banners for Things From Another World! (Click through the TFAW banner on our site and we get a cut. Thank you!)
